Emili Cuatrecasas has pleaded guilty to 8 tax-evasion charges and settled with the State Prosecutor: he will serve a 2-year suspended sentence.
Cuatrecasas’ legal opinion was instrumental in the creation of the Landsbanki Equity Release, to the point that the former would refer to them as their cooperators in marketing literature for the Lex-Life Capital Assurance product:
Our product, Lex Life Capital Assurance-Spain, has been developed in cooporation (sic) with the law firm CUATRECASAS (www.cuatrecasas.com), “Best Spanish Firm of the Year 2005, International Law Office”.
Yet another indicator of the number of entities that procure a “piece of the financial action” whenever a “financial product” is launched and sold.
It is not just the acned salesmen in their Primark suits who worm their greasy way into your home (and then your confidence) flashy their fraudulent sales brochures … but following them are a whole army of dodgy bankers, accountants, lawyers, P.R. companies and any other greedy Tom, Dick or Harry looking for an opportunity to grab some (all) of your dosh …
They are working as a team and they are all wanting to rob you.
So next time you see a “financial advisor” (run like Hell) and remember that trailing behind him/her is a whole gang of people who even bigger spivs than him!
How right you are. At least the Spanish Prosecutor and courts are finally bringing these crooked lawyers to justice. It makes you wonder how Hamilius found these unsavoury characters then again one can only get into bed with like minded people.
Unfortunately for all those enablers with “excellent” standing in their home jurisdictions, there is no equivalent to the US “Claw-back provisions”. Those are applied to people who even unknowingly profited from a fraudulent scheme, or were paid professional fees as enablers, who have to return the fake profits or their fees. In this case the obvious fees paid to the “Best Spanish Lawfirm” in order to lend credence to the fraud.
